Teofimo Lopez is the reigning WBO and The Ring light welterweight champion and has been on a stellar run of form. However, is he undefeated like a few of boxing's biggest current stars? Unfortunately, a glance at his record reveals that Lopez is not an unbeaten fighter.
However, he is close, having competed in 21 matches but only ever suffering one defeat. That specific loss came against George Kambosos Jr., who dethroned Lopez as WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight champion in a difficult split-decision loss.

The loss to Kambosos lit a fire in Lopez's heart, and he has been on a tear since having authored a four-fight win streak. Meanwhile, Kambosos, who was undefeated at the time of his win over Lopez, went on a two-fight skid courtesy of Devin Haney, who captured the aforementioned lightweight belts from him.
After his two losses to Haney, Kambosos managed to get back into the win column, beating Maxi Hughes before falling again, this time to the great Vasiliy Lomachenko via 11th round TKO. Boxing is a cruel sport. Meanwhile, fortune has smiled on Lopez, who is on top of the world.
He is working to erase the loss from public memory by continuing to build on his win streak and elevate himself to pound-for-pound great status. While he is a ways away, having to contend with some top-tier talent and modern-day juggernauts in Terence Crawford, Canelo Alvarez, and others, he is nothing if not confident.
For now, though, he must focus on his next assignment.
Teofimo Lopez has a title defense this weekend
On Saturday, Teofimo Lopez will defend his WBO and The Ring light welterweight titles against the streaking Steve Claggett, who is determined to prove his detractors wrong. Many expect the bout to be a washout in Lopez's favor, but boxing, like many combat sports, is no stranger to upsets.
Both men have worked hard in their preparation to ensure that they walk out of the James L. Knight Center the winner. Claggett is hoping to stun the boxing world, while Lopez is intent on proving the old adage that there are levels to the fight game.
