Henry Cejudo weighed in on the recent lightweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and outlined areas that the lightweight champion should have exploited.

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Cejudo demonstrated two techniques he believes would have served Makhachev well during the fight. He mentioned that the lightweight champon should have used his size advantage better in the clinch.

He said:

"I wanna go over-unders and notice both my elbows are gonna be high, so as Demetrious [Johnson] starts to sag down, I'm gonna go ahead and go with him. I'm gonna feel the pressure...I'm gonna drape over create the hunchback of me...I go for my inside trip." [1:21 - 1:40]

'Triple C' also demonstrated another technique using the same over-under that would have seen Makhachev gain side-control, saying:

"We have here, we drape over now notice when I do drape over, my back is coming over here. I'm creating that space. So I got my inside trip or I could always cross-body with this free hand to take him over, end up in side control." [1:48 - 2:03]

It will be interesting to see if the Dagestani uses one of the techniques that Cejudo suggested if he were to fight Volkanovski in an immediate rematch. He will have time to assess some of the mistakes he made in the fight and use that as a learning experience to correct them for his next fight.

Henry Cejudo describes the advantages that shorter fighters have

youtube-cover

Although Henry Cejudo isn't the most physically imposing fighter, he has been able to use his small stature to his advantage.

'Triple C' uploaded a video to his YouTube channel where he and former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson spoke about the advantages that shorter fighters have and how they can use the space available, saying:

"This is a conversation for us short kings here...A lot of times think because you're short it's a disadvantage. Not really. You're more explosive, you're harder to take down because of the level change...In other words, being short fighting somebody that has more length, there's more body to grab." [0:15 - 1:13]

At UFC 284, Volkanovski proved that shorter fighters can still have advantages against taller fighters if their timing and distance is precise, and they can be successful in certain positions.
