Dagestan has produced some of the best mixed martial artists in the world right now, and Murad Ramazanov believes that his lineage puts him in a tier above anyone else’s.

Ramazanov will put that reputation to the test when he faces the debuting Roberto Soldic at ONE on Prime Video 5 on Friday, December 2, at Mall of Asia Arena.

ONE on Prime Video 5 is available live and for free for existing Prime Video subscribers in North America.

Ramazanov, in an interview with ONE Championship, recalled how he formed a close relationship with UFC lightweight world champion Islam Makhachev and Russian legend Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The undefeated welterweight contender said that he learned a lot from Nurmagomedov and Makhachev during their sessions:

“We have a good relationship. During Islam Makhachev’s fight camp in America [in February], we lived nearby and spent all our time together. I’ve had a warm relationship with his family for a long time – his brother Umar and I competed at the same amateur competitions. During the last training camp, I learned a lot from Khabib and Islam, I am on another level as a fighter thanks to them.”

Ramazanov is one of the most dangerous welterweights in the world, holding a perfect 11-0 record in his career and 3-0 in ONE Championship.

His most recent performance saw him batter former ONE welterweight world champion Zebaztian Kadestam for the unanimous decision win at ONE: Winter Warriors II in December 2021.

Murad Ramazanov says how Khabib Nurmagomedov influenced his generation

Like any Russian fighter of his generation, Murad Ramazanov said that one of the biggest influences he had in his MMA career was Khabib Nurmagomedov.

In the same interview with ONE Championship, Ramazanov said that he and his fellow fighters felt a different level of kinship to Nurmagomedov since the MMA legend proudly represented Dagestan on the world stage.

Murad Ramazanov added that Nurmagomedov commanded respect and that it translated across different generations of Russian fighters:

“We all looked up to Khabib. He was one of us, a guy from Dagestan who was proud of his heritage, of his fighting style, who was respected. He became a champion. People respected him. We looked at Khabib and believed that it was possible for us, too, one day. His influence on the region is huge.”
