Shamil Gasanov explained why Halil Amir showed flashes of a comeback in round three of their recent fight.
At ONE Fight Night 26, Gasanov and Amir clashed in a featherweight MMA bout. The matchup was expected to be more competitive, but Gasanov's strength and grappling led to a decisive unanimous decision win.
The third round was Halil Amir's best, as he nearly made a massive comeback. During his post-fight press conference, Shamil Gasanov was asked about his opponent's last-ditch effort and responded by saying:
"In the first and second rounds, I controlled him on the ground, but unfortunately, I couldn’t drain his energy enough. That allowed him to rally in the third round and have a few successful moments."

Shamil Gasanov's run in ONE Championship
Shamil Gasanov made his ONE Championship debut in October 2022 at ONE on Prime Video 3. The Russian featherweight quickly made a name for himself in the division with a first-round submission against Kim Jae Woong.
Gasanov's sophomore promotional appearance didn't go as planned. 'The Cobra' suffered a second-round submission defeat against Garry Tonong, which was also the only loss in his professional MMA career.
Gasanov has since bounced back with unanimous decision wins against Oh Ho Taek, Aaron Canarte, and Halil Amir, all in 2024. The 29-year-old's latest run has earned him the number four ranking in the featherweight MMA division.
On January 10, 2025, Tang Ki will defend his featherweight MMA world title at ONE Fight Night 27. The Chinese powerhouse is scheduled to fight Akbar Abdullaev, who holds a promotional record of 3-0, all knockouts.
ONE Fight Night 27 will take place inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The January 2025 event can be seen live and for free by North American and Canadian viewers with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
As for Gasanov, he could be one win away from a title shot. The Russian contender is featured in the title picture alongside his former opponent Garry Tonon, who's coming off a third-fight winning streak, all submissions.
