Mikey Musumeci is a man of many languages and he’s now adding Russian to his wide range of linguistic skills.
The reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion recently shared on his Instagram Stories that he’s working on his Russian in hopes of giving him the much-talked-about Dagestani power.
Musumeci shared a video of him practicing his Russian with one of his training partners at Evolve MMA.

Mikey Musumeci wrote:
“Will this give me the Dagestan power? 🤣 I am ready to smesh people now HAHAHA.”
With or without Dagestani power, though, Musumeci has made himself a career choking people out and breaking their limbs off. The 26-year-old already held five Brazilian jiu-jitsu world titles before he entered ONE Championship in April 2022.
His run in the promotion has since been stellar, to say the least. Musumeci submitted Japanese legend Masakazu Imanari with a rear-naked choke on debut at ONE 156.
Musumeci then made history last month when he became the inaugural ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion, beating rival Cleber Sousa for the gold at ONE on Prime Video 2.
Though the match didn’t end in a submission, Musumeci was aggression personified during his trilogy match against Sousa, ultimately earning the unanimous decision win.
Mikey Musumeci reveals how he learned Portuguese
Mikey Musumeci always did things his way, and that included learning new languages.
During his appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, Musumeci said that being a lifelong Brazilian jiu-jitsu artist meant that he was always in the company of Brazilians. His conversations with his gym mates eventually developed his Portuguese.
Though he could converse in Portuguese, Musumeci said he used Google Translate to help him further in his informal education.
He said:
“So I was around Brazilians my whole life. So I just use Google Translate for so many years that I learned Portuguese that way. No one ever taught me. Just using Google Translate. And then Brazilians are always correcting me when I made mistakes.”
‘Darth Rigatoni’ also revealed in the same interview that he’s learning Indonesian to add to his growing linguistic body.
