Filipino strawweight MMA sensation 'Thunder Kid' Lito Adiwang of the Philippines was shocked when he found out former opponent and now interim strawweight MMA king 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks was moving up to flyweight.
But the 31-year-old Baguio City native is also extremely intrigued at the potential damage the American can do in his new weight class.
Speaking to Sportskeeda MMA in an exclusive interview, Adiwang says he understands Brooks' decision to try his hand at flyweight. He just questions the timing of it all.
'Thunder Kid' said:
"I think as an athlete, that’s the natural next move once you got the belt in your division. So I think I was just really taken by surprise by the timing of it all. He didn’t wait to unify the belt with Joshua first before he moved up."
Adiwang added:
"Yes, I think it’s a good move for him."
Brooks joined the world's largest martial arts organization in November 2021, beating Adiwang in his debut by second-round submission.
'The Monkey God' has since dominated the strawweight division, defeating everyone in his path explosively and decisively, establishing his status as one of the best fighters in the promotion.
Now, Brooks is ready for more challenges against bigger and better opposition.
