Jarred Brooks means no disrespect in aggressively calling out Demetrious Johnson: “You’ve got to sell fights too”

Taking the GOAT’s name in vain is certainly not a popular choice in mixed martial arts circles.

However, Jarred Brooks does have the cajones to publicly call out Demetrious Johnson, who is considered by most as the greatest of all time.

In an interview with the world’s largest martial arts organization, ONE, the reigning strawweight MMA kingpin once again challenged ‘Mighty Mouse’ in a champion vs. champion showdown.

‘The Monkey God’, though, made it clear that he has no bad blood with the ONE flyweight MMA world champion and simply wants to test himself against an icon of the sport.

“DJ is the main fight, period. I have nothing but respect for him. The way that I have been calling out, it can seem like it is disrespectful, but you’ve got to sell fights too,” he shared.

Brooks has yet to defend the 26 pounds of gold in his possession after unseating the division’s longtime ruler Joshua Pacio last year.

His last appearance was in a submission grappling showdown against the virtuosic Mikey Musumeci at ONE Fight Night 15, where he fell short of becoming a double-champion.

‘The Monkey God’ has been itching to return to the Circle and is ready to tussle with any challenger that dares block his path.

While nothing is set in stone yet, all signs point to a rematch with Pacio. ‘The Passion’ put on an impressive performance against the previously undefeated Mansur Malachiev in the same event last month.

Then again, he’ll certainly hit the jackpot if given to opportunity to cross swords with Johnson. A win over the legend will definitely put Brooks among the elite of the elite.

Until then, we can expect the vocal Jarred Brooks to keep calling his shot. Let’s see if Demetrious Johnson bites and entertains the challenge.
