Joe Rogan applauds the realism in the movie 'The Hurt Locker'

Joe Rogan recently hosted journalist and screenwriter Mark Boal on The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) podcast and addressed multiple topics. Rogan notably expressed his appreciation for one of Boal's best-known works, 'The Hurt Locker.'

A freelance journalist who spent a couple of weeks closely covering the work of a U.S. bomb squad during the Iraq war in 2004, Mark Boal eventually came up with the movie script. It primarily revolves around an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, its leader, and other military personnel.

During their discussion, Joe Rogan referenced the movie's iconic grocery store/supermarket scene. It featured the movie's protagonist William James (portrayed by Jeremy Renner), who's an elite bomb disposal expert, in a grocery store in the U.S. after returning from Iraq.

Rogan alluded to the fact that the scene shows James being visibly bored of his mundane life in America and wanting to return to the chaos of the war in Iraq. Addressing the movie's realism and the scene's perfection, the MMA personality stated:

"It was perfect. It was the perfect juxtaposition. And you do relate to it because I think all of us are aware that you kind of get accustomed to whatever you're around. You get accustomed to a chaotic home life or a peaceful home life. You get a very busy workplace where people are yelling at each other and everything's constantly moving fast or boring droning cubicle life."

He continued:

"People understand that there's like certain ways of living and existing that you can get accustomed to. And they kind of make sense when you've adjusted and adapted to them. But then, to have such a clear difference, between being in a warzone and being in a supermarket, it was perfect."

Joe Rogan lauds the depiction of a soldier's warzone experience in 'The Hurt Locker'

Akin to many movie critics and fans, Joe Rogan praised 'The Hurt Locker's' brilliant representation of the soldiers' harrowing warzone experiences. The UFC commentator and Mark Boal also highlighted Jeremy Renner's excellent enactment of the scene. At 4:40 of the aforementioned video, Rogan noted:

"It was such a good representation of what these guys have to go through. He's amazing."

Moreover, Joe Rogan opined that, unlike most other movies, 'The Hurt Locker' didn't require any suspension of disbelief. The movie enthusiast further indicated that this was because it realistically depicted how its protagonist was perpetually attracted to the chaos of war.

'The Hurt Locker,' written by Mark Boal and directed by Kathryn Bigelow, premiered in 2008. It garnered several awards, including the Academy Awards for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Picture.
