Joe Rogan began working with the UFC in 1997, and recently admitted that he used his position ahead of the curve to strike major success in MMA betting. Being a martial arts fanatic and practitioner from a young age, Rogan has always kept up to date with the ongoings in the combat sports world.
The podcast host used his knowledge to exploit betting odds set by sportsbooks that were unaware of many fighters' true potential in the early days of MMA. However, Rogan admitted that he cut his MMA betting career short due to worries about it influencing his commentary during the fights he may have placed bets on.
David Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, recently appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience. Portnoy and Rogan discussed the overall state of betting in MMA, and the podcast host said the following:
"I used to gamble with my business partner at Onnit, Aubrey [Marcus]. I used to gamble on the fights early on. The early days of the UFC, like the 2000s. I would just go, 'Ah nobody even knows about Anderson Silva. Bet the house on this guy!' Then I thought about it for a while, and I was like, 'Maybe this isn't good for my commentary.' So I just stopped doing it and I would tell Aubrey, and at one time we were like 84% winning."

Paddy Pimblett was awarded a controversial decision victory over Jared Gordon at UFC 282. Many felt that 'Flash' had secured at least two of the three rounds, and were left in shock as Bruce Buffer read the winner's name.
Joe Rogan, who often interviews fighters in the cage post-fight, was seen rolling his eyes at the result in a video recorded by a fan. David Portnoy discussed the right during his appearance on Rogan's podcast.
Pimblett famously signed a £1 million deal with Barstool Sports last year, and Portnoy was seen in attendance at UFC 282 with a Paddy Pimblett-wig that his fans often wear.
Joe Rogan shared his opinion on who he believes won the fight, and said the following:
"He shouldn't have won. I thought Jared Gordon won that fight. But it was a good fight. Certainly wasn't a blow-out. It wasn't one of those fights where there's no f***ing way [Pimblett won]."
