Jonathan Haggerty will make his long-awaited return to the circle at ONE on Prime Video 4. The No.3-ranked fighter in the flyweight Muay Thai division, Haggerty will be making his bantamweight debut against dangerous Russian striker Vladimir Kuzmin.

While Haggerty is a former flyweight Muay Thai world champion, we could see ‘The General’ take a turn in the world of mixed martial arts in the near future.

Speaking to The MMA Super Fan, Jonathan Haggerty shared his interest in challenging the No.1-ranked bantamweight mixed martial artist under the ONE Championship banner, Fabricio Andrade:

“Now we’re talking about bantamweight. The belt is vacant now, but Fabricio Andrade is really good. He’s really good stand-up-wise. I’d love to test myself. I love a good test. You can tell by the people I’ve been in the ring with. I get in the best to be the best. That’s my saying, take risks and prosper.”

Fabricio Andrade is currently undefeated in ONE Championship, earning five straight victories. Despite remaining without a loss, things did not go Andrade’s way in his last outing at ONE on Prime Video 2.

Meeting John ‘Hands of Stone’ Lineker in the main event, the fight was called off in the third round after Andrade landed a vicious knee that landed a little too low, injuring Lineker in the process and forcing the referee to call for a no-contest.

Jonathan Haggerty plans to capture Muay Thai gold before a move to MMA

While preparing for his return to the circle, Jonathan Haggerty revealed he had two opportunities. He could either return to Muay Thai or venture into the unknown and accept an MMA fight.

Though ‘The General’ has a strong interest in moving to MMA, for now, Muay Thai just made more sense:

“The plan was, I sat down with my team, and there were two options. We can go bantamweight Muay Thai or we can go fully into MMA. I chose bantamweight Muay Thai because I feel like I want to get the belt again at Muay Thai. I’m destined to get that. I want that belt, especially the new belt. We chose Muay Thai.”

The division's top prize is currently carried by arguably the best Muay Thai fighter in the world today, Nong-O Gaiyanghadao. With 264 career wins and an undefeated record in ONE Championship, Nong-O has been nothing short of dominant in his lengthy combat sports career.

Could Jonathan Haggerty be the man to unseat Nong-O as Muay Thai’s bantamweight king?
