Jorge Masvidal on Joe Rogan's podcast: 'Gamebred' details how things turned ugly with Colby Covington, where they stand now

MMA fighter Jorge Masvidal recently appeared on Joe Rogan's popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, where he spoke at length about his contentious relationship with fellow fighter Colby Covington.

During the show, Masvidal didn't hold back his feelings towards Covington, whom he called a "bitch" and accused him of showing his true colors for the money. Masvidal also claimed that Covington had talked about his family and kids in order to sell pay-per-view, and had broken his trust after Masvidal had taken him under his wing.

"I basically fed this dude for a year, lived on my couch and gave him a dollar because he didn't have a job with a broken hand. He knows the relationship I have with my kids and you're trying to use that against me, you are a piece of shit."

Masvidal also revealed that he had known for some time that Covington was not a good person, citing an incident in which Covington had failed to pay their mutual striking coach after promising him a 5% cut of his earnings.

Despite the bad blood between the two fighters, Masvidal promised to defeat Covington in the cage, saying:

"I promise you before my career is over, I'm going to f**king murd*r Colby in the cage legally."

Last year, he was charged with aggravated battery and criminal mischief for allegedly assaulting former friend and fellow UFC welterweight Colby Covington outside a Miami restaurant. While he has since pled not guilty, his defense attorney, Saam Zangeneh, hopes to resolve the case before it reaches court.

Despite the controversy surrounding him, Masvidal is gearing up for his next fight against former welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. Burns currently holds the No.5 spot in the 170-pound division, while Masvidal is ranked at No.11. It remains to be seen how the fight will play out

Jorge Masvidal might secure a title fight if gets his hands raised at UFC 287, claims Michael Bisping

During a recent episode of his podcast, Michael Bisping stated that a victory over Burns would put Jorge Masvidal back in contention for a shot at the championship, which is currently held by Leon Edwards.

"If he [Masvidal] can beat him [Burns] then all of a sudden he’s right back in contention. Let's remember Leon Edwards is the champ. There is a storyline with Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal which goes back to [Masvidal's] Darren Till fight in 2019..."

Bisping also noted that Edwards has expressed a desire to fight Masvidal again in order to seek revenge for their previous encounter at a backstage brawl at UFC Fight Night 147.

"Leon was talking recently, he wants to fight Masvidal. He wants revenge. He wants to get him back. He assaulted him essentially, he wants to beat him up... Well if he can beat Gilbert Burns, here we go, we never know."
