Danielle Kelly is confident that in the biggest rematch of her career, she can produce a better performance than the first time around.
The 28-year-old was able to put together a run of four consecutive wins that eventually saw her become the inaugural ONE atomweight submission grappling world champion.
In her first title defense, Kelly faced off with one of the most highly credentialed grapplers in her weight class in Mayssa Bastos.
The Brazilian was able to dethrone her at ONE Fight Night 24 in August but the contest was so close that it gave Kelly a lot to work with heading into their second meeting at ONE Fight Night 26 on Dec. 6.
She believes that the pressure on her shoulders to perform was a major factor in their first match. But, after seeing how close the match-up was, she's more confident for the rematch.
In a recent interview with ONE Championship, Kelly spoke about really pushing the pace and taking the fight to her opponent the second time around:
"This time around, I don't feel any pressure. I'm just gonna go after her this time."
Danielle Kelly has always got a point to prove
Throughout her life and career, Danielle Kelly has had a point to prove.
She's certainly no stranger to adversity so this setback isn't going to take away her drive and if anything, it looks to have boosted her confidence.
Competing against Bastos was a big step for her. Although, she didn't come away with the win, Kelly certainly proved that she belongs at this level even if she doesn't have the long list of accolades to match her opponent.
Getting revenge over the world champion and taking her belt back might just be the biggest highlight of her career to date. This time around, Kelly knows that she's more than ready to go out there and achieve that.
