Justin Gaethje isn't very excited about Conor McGregor's return fight against Michael Chandler.

While McGregor and Chandler will feature as rival coaches on TUF 31, the date of their subsequent welterweight clash is yet to be finalized. When asked to weigh in on the matchup, Gaethje sarcastically said it makes perfect sense.

The former lightweight title challenger somewhat incorrectly claimed that McGregor only fights opponents that 'The Highlight' has already beaten. Gaethje said in an interview with The Schmo:

"That makes perfect sense. That man only fights people I beat. So, what else?"

When asked about the fight prediction, he said:

"I don't f***ing care!"

Justin Gaethje's comments are primarily based on his Fight of the Year decision win over Michael Chandler in 2021. Barring Chandler, Donald Cerrone is the only fighter with a loss against Gaethje to have faced McGregor.

However, three of the Irishman's former opponents have registered wins over Gaethje. 'The Highlight' lost to Dustin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez early in his UFC career and dropped a title shot against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Gaethje is now slated to take on surging prospect Rafael Fiziev in a potential barnburner at UFC 286 in March.

Justin Gaethje believes Conor McGregor is done "being a competitive athlete"

Conor McGregor has been inactive for over a year and a half, during which he even dropped out of the USADA testing pool. However, McGregor managed to stay in the headlines throughout that time, with rumors of his return floating around.

While Justin Gaethje was also rumored to be the Dubliner's potential return opponent, 'The Highlight ' didn't think much of it. Gaethje was highly skeptical about 'The Notorious' returning to the octagon in the first place and even more so regarding his competitive intent.

Gaethje believes Conor McGregor will strictly fight for entertainment value if he does return and will never fight for the title again. 'The Highlight' told ESPN:

“I mean a fight for purely, strictly entertainment value, possibly. But as far as coming back and being a competitive athlete, trying to fight for a title, absolutely never again.… He might fight (Jorge) Masvidal. (Nate) Diaz is gone, so he f*cked up there.”
