Kamaru Usman calling for "blockbuster" fight against Islam Makhachev riles up MMA fans: "Another idea from Ali"

Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman wants to lock horns with Islam Makhachev down the line. This news has sparked fan reactions on X. After a hiatus, Usman will return to the octagon this weekend at UFC Atlanta against No. 7 ranked welterweight Joaquin Buckley.

Meanwhile, Makhachev has vacated his lightweight throne to move up to 170 pounds and will challenge newly minted UFC champion Jack Della Maddalena next. As per sources, 'JDM' vs Makhachev will happen later this year, and Makhachev is currently working on his transition and hitting the gym twice.

'The Nigerian Nightmare', during a recent sitdown with Kevin Iole, expressed interest in fighting Makhachev. He said:

"I think Islam has the ability to do it, but it's not going to be easy. Fast forward, I mean current pound-for-pound vs. former pound-for-pound, I think that's a blockbuster. That would be a great outing to go out there and get another blockbuster before I sail off."

Joaquin Buckley wants title shot after Kamaru Usman fight

Joaquin Buckley is currently on a six-fight UFC win streak. If he gets a win over Kamaru Usman this weekend and extends it to seven, 'New Mansa' believes he should get a title shot next. In a recent YouTube video on his channel, Buckley said:

"Once I beat Kamaru Usman, there is no debate, there is no back-and-forth, there is no argument. We up next."

Buckley also took a dig at Islam Makhachev. 'New Mansa' thinks even if Makhachev dethrones Jack Della Maddalena, the Russian fighter won't fight for long. He added:

"If Islam does get blessed with that title shot and he does beat 'JDM,' he's not going to stay there. He's going to retire. He's going to get up out of there quick."
