Katie Taylor's father lauds Conor McGregor for attempt to make Croke Park fight a reality

Conor McGregor wears his Irish nationality on his sleeve and spares no opportunity to express his pride in it. This extends to being incredibly supportive of athletes and fighters from Ireland, be it mixed martial artists or boxers.

Irish boxer Katie Taylor's next fight was announced for May 20 at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland, against Chantelle Cameron. The undisputed lightweight champion was originally slated to face Amanda Serrano in a homecoming bout at Croke Park but a hand injury forced Taylor out of contention.

In an interview with the Irish Mirror, Taylor's father appreciated McGregor's previous efforts to make the fight happen at Croke Park. He detailed the financials and praised 'The Notorious' for offering to cover the costs:

“She deserves the homecoming… but €1.2 million – it is three times more than what Wembley costs. It is true. With security and everything, the whole cost of Wembley is €400,000. It’s €1.2 million with Croke Park. It’s scandalous. It’s great for Conor [McGregor] as well. It’s great for everybody. It’s great to see one combat sports person looking after the other. Only positive things can come out of it.”

Conor McGregor had previously taken to Twitter to make an open declaration in support of Katie Taylor:

"The extra security bill is 500k to have Katie Taylor fight at croke park? I will sponsor the event to see this happen."

Nate Diaz hits back at Mike Tyson praising Conor McGregor's boxing

Former boxing heavyweight champion Mike Tyson previously commented on Conor McGregor's boxing abilities, specifically in reference to the Irishman's matchup against Floyd Mayweather.

Tyson praised the effort from 'The Notorious' and highlighted the level of his opponent as a significant factor:

"[Conor McGregor] never really had a boxing match in his life, right? He didn't have a boxing match [before Floyd Mayweather] right? He went 10 rounds with the greatest fighter in the last 100 years of boxing. He went 10 rounds, scored punches on the greatest fighter in the last 100 years. People just want to see the black guy beat the white guy. But look what he had to fight against. And look what he did when he fought against it."

McGregor's former two-time opponent Nate Diaz was having none of it. The Stockton native recently hit back at Tyson's comments on Twitter and spoke about giving the Irishman a hard time:

"I took him [Conor McGregor] all the way out in about eight minutes right before that. What does that tell you? Finished. Dead."
