Laura Sanko recently opened up about her experience as a broadcaster so far and revealed how she plans to make the road to commentary easier.

While speaking to Fight Nation on SiriusXM, Sanko spoke about becoming the first woman to become a color commentator in the modern UFC era. She mentioned that she has mixed feelings because of some of the difficulties she faced while striving to become a UFC commentator:

"It's a mixed bag. I mean everybody knows that this point that there have been people that have very publically discredit me or my reputation or whatever. It's super tough because you'd like to think that all the women would be there to cheer another woman breaking this glass ceiling so to speak."

The former Invicta atomweight also described the difficulties for women in the broadcasting industry. She mentioned that there she would like to be an example for other women that they too can be involved in different areas of broadcasting whether it's reporting, hosting, or commentary, saying:

"It's a tough thing to be in broadcasting in any sports industry let alone one that is so incredibly macho like MMA...But now I wanna show like that not only can you be in those lanes, like you can be in this other lane too if you have the experience and the knowlege and the broadcast ability necessary to do it."

Although Sanko is the first female color commentator in the modern UFC era, her success could lead to that becoming the norm and more women being encouraged to become commentators as well.

Laura Sanko credits Dana White for encouraging her

Laura Sanko made history as it was announced that she will serve as the first female commentator in the modern UFC era. She credited UFC president Dana White for his encouragement throughout the years as she developed her skills on Contender Series.

During her appearance on Morning Kombat, the fighter-turned-broadcaster spoke about her experience on the Contender Series. She shared a story of when she sent a DM to White one night after the show, telling him she intends to be the promotion's first female commentator, saying:

"I got a little drunk after the Contender Series one night. I was in my room and I was like, 'I'm just gonna DM Dana.' And so I was like, 'Hey, I just wanna thank you for the opportunity, for putting me on the show. And just so you know, one day I will be the UFC's first female commentator.'"
