In response to Jorge Masvidal's callout, Leon Edwards has given the mixed martial arts veteran a couple of demands that he must follow in order to be given a shot at his welterweight strap.

'Rocky' has been angling for a clash against the Miami-native for some time, but was always pushed aside for different opponents. Since winning the 170lb title, the Brit has the upper hand. While he would love to get revenge on the 37-year-old for the sucker punch three years ago, if the fight happens, it will be on his terms.

Posting a reply on social media to Jorge Masvidal's earlier comments, Leon Edwards gave a handful of instructions to his division rival if he wants any chance of being considered for a shot at his throne:

"Refer to me as "Mr. Edwards" or "Sir" and get on your knees and beg [for a fight against me] and I may consider it."

Masvidal is looking to return to the octagon soon. 'Gamebred' has been discussing potential matchups against Conor McGregor, Gilbert Burns, and the aforementioned Leon Edwards.

The American Top Team representative has fought just three times in the past three years, and although he remains one of the UFC's most popular athletes, he needs to continue competing before he falls further down the pecking order.

Could we see Jorge Masvidal fight for Leon Edwards' welterweight title next?

Ever since their confrontation in London years ago, the fight between Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards has been widely considered one of the most anticipated matchups in the 170lb division.

Though it was never finalized, now may be the best time to capitalize on the rivalry and pair the two strikes together to settle their differences. Not only are both fighters close to the heights of their popularity, but the storyline between the two now has a title attached, making things much more interesting.

While it seems like everything has fallen into place perfectly, it's likely that the UFC will opt to throw Kamaru Usman straight back into title contention and allow him the chance at reclaiming the throne he held for three years.

Masvidal may need to get himself one or two more wins before a title shot is presented to him, after quite convincingly losing each of his last three appearances inside the cage.
