Mario Bautista insists he's "not being overlooked" before Patchy Mix fires back during heated exchange at UFC 316 presser

Mario Bautista and Patchy Mix recently traded barbs in the lead-up to their bantamweight clash. The two fighters are slated to square off this Saturday at UFC 316, set to take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

'No Love', who is set to make his promotional debut, has already made waves ahead of fight night with a bold claim that he’ll submit Bautista. At the UFC 316 press conference on Thursday, the Nevada native was asked if he feels overshadowed by the fanfare surrounding Mix. Bautista replied:

"No, I'm not being overlooked. But there's the attention right there. I'm not getting overlooked — I get all the attention, obviously. But no, it's fine. He has these aspirations, but he's got to get past me on Saturday night."

Mix wasted no time firing back with a sharp response:

Bautista is coming off a split decision victory over former featherweight champion José Aldo at UFC 307 this past October, extending his win streak to seven straight inside the octagon.

Meanwhile, Mix was last seen in action at the Bellator Champions Series in May 2024, where he clinched a split decision win over Magomed Magomedov. 'No Love' is also riding a seven-fight win streak.

Dominick Cruz applauds Patchy Mix for taking tough UFC debut against Mario Bautista

During a recent appearance on The Bohnfire with Mike Bohn, former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz commended Patchy Mix for stepping up on short notice to face Mario Bautista.

‘The Dominator’ emphasized that Bautista is no easy matchup, calling him a dangerous challenge for anyone, especially for a fighter making his UFC debut:

"Patchy Mix is a complete question mark. We don't know how great he is and this fight will show because Bautista is one of the toughest guys in the division. But it says a lot about Patchy Mix and how good he knows he is because to take that fight – not a lot of people know about Bautista and not a lot of people would have taken that fight. I think Patchy is a beast. When I watch his fights, he's a freaking beast. But like I said, you see guys like that then they get to the UFC and you're like, I don't know what it is."
