ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci has put the time in to achieve success in his chosen sport.

Known for his insane work rate, Musumeci can often be found spending over half a day in the gym and on the mats, constantly drilling techniques until he knows them inside and out.

He is the definition of the saying 'practice makes perfect' and has achieved great things in submission grappling thanks to his dedication to training and constantly improving.

In a recent video posted by Fightlore on their YouTube channel, ‘Darth Rigatoni’ said this about what keeps him pushing forward despite everything he has already accomplished:

“What keeps me going, I would say, is my motivation and drive. I’m always trying to get better and improve, and I know how short our life is. I know how limited our time is. I feel like every second I’m not working toward my goal, I feel like I’m wasting time.”

At ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video, Mikey Musumeci will look to defend his world championship for the first time after becoming ONE’s first submission grappling champion at ONE on Prime Video 2.

On January 13, he will face Gantumur Bayanduuren live in US primetime from the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. The entire event is free to watch with an active Prime subscription.

Mikey Musumeci speaks on how to handle world championship success

Grappling wizard Mikey Musumeci has taken all of his career success in his stride, including his world championship win inside the circle.

Ahead of his first world title defense at ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video, Musumeci spoke about how he keeps his head down and continues to work just as hard as ever before.

Now world champion for the last three months after beating fellow BJJ black belt Cleber Sousa, Musumeci likes to remind himself that while success is welcome, the key to staying grounded is to live selflessly and help others.

The 26-year-old phenom reiterated the following axiom on his Instagram page that read:

“Just because you won a world title in an activity doesn’t make you above or better than anyone else. You can be an idiot and loser in life (which a lot of world champions and 'successful' people are unfortunately) One day, we will all die and we will all die the same with no titles or materials to show off to others. The only thing that will stay is the impact you had on others around you.”

On January 13, he will put his ONE flyweight submission grappling world championship on the line against Mongolian combat sambo specialist Gantumur Bayanduuren in the co-main event at ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video.

Originally scheduled to face sambo gold medalist Sayan Khertek, Mikey Musumeci will now face arguably an even tougher challenge as Bayanduuren is also a BJJ brown belt with MMA experience.
