Reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci will defend his world title against Yemeni fighter Osamah Almarwai at ONE Championship’s landmark event in the United States in May.
“Darth Rigatoni” puts his world title on the line for the second time this year at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video on May 5 in Colorado, the first-ever live event of the promotion in the U.S.
It will be coming on the heels of his successful world title defense last January over Mongolian challenger Gantumur Bayanduuren.
Mikey Musumeci won the inaugural ONE flyweight submission grappling the world title by defeating Brazilian Cleber Sousa by unanimous decision. To date, he has compiled a record of 3-0.
Immediately after his victory over Bayanduuren, Mikey Musumeci made it clear that he wants to compete in the U.S. card along with the promotion’s top athletes.
At ONE Fight Night 7, “Darth Rigatoni” will take on Almarwai, who may be his toughest opponent yet.
Almarwai has been training at Atos BJJ in San Diego for a while now under the guidance of legendary grappler and ONE athlete Andre Galvao.
He is on a stellar career run, winning gold medals against top-class opponents at the IBJJF No-Gi American Nationals and Pan American Championships as well as earning a first-place finish at the 2022 IBJJF No-Gi World Championships.
The Musumeci-Almarwai clash will be the third world title fight at ONE Fight Night 10, which also features the headlining bout for the ONE flyweight world championship between reigning king Demetrious Johnson and former titleholder Adriano Moraes. The flyweight Muay Thai World Championship will also be on the line as Rodtang Jitmuangnon defends against Edgar Tabares.
ONE Fight Night 10 will take place at 1stBank Center in Broomfield. All the action from the event will be aired live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.

Apart from showcasing his expert grappling skills, Mikey Musumeci is enjoying his ONE Championship journey as he gets to interact with other world-class athletes and build a good relationship with them.
In an interview with SCMP MMA, “Darth Rigatoni” shared his experience linking with his fellow athletes in the promotion, underscoring that he is having fun.
Mikey Musumeci said:
“It’s so interesting and awesome. We’re all from different sports but we’re all like together. It was so much fun. It was like we were kids in preschool and kindergarten playing games.”
