Miranda Maverick and Rose Namajunas will lock horns in a consequential contest within the women's flyweight hierarchy of the UFC. However, the two are not letting that get in the way of their relationship.
Appearing on Bowks Talking Bouts, Maverick covered several subjects ahead of her co-main event clash with the former multi-time UFC strawweight champion. This clash between Maverick and Namajunas is the penultimate fight of the night at UFC Atlanta, which goes down on June 14.
When touching on how fighting a contender this highly ranked has been a long-time goal of hers, while also delving a bit into her relationship with Namajunas, Maverick said:
"Now finally, I'm getting to face Rose. Somebody that is in the top of the division which is nice. So it's a good jump in competition and I'm ready to go... I'm just ready to kind of take that step up, you know. Rose has been a training partner for quite some time now and now we get to be rivals instead in a different sense."

She added:
"So excited to fight her and then right afterwards be back to training together and being friends. Rose is an inspiration. I've been watching her since I started in MMA. This isn't a bad blood fight in the slightest. I'm just ready to go in there and put it all on the line and I know she is too."

How training history will inform Miranda Maverick vs. Rose Namajunas, according to the former
Miranda Maverick and Rose Namajunas have an extensive training history with one another, as mentioned, with the two looking to vault themselves into a good spot in the UFC's women's top ten rankings at 125 pounds with a strong win here.
As the 27-year-old spoke about how the UFC Atlanta bout will not affect her ties to Namajunas thereafter and how their anecdotal familiarity training with one another in the gym will inform how this contest plays out, Maverick said:
"It was kind of a mutual agreement when we accepted the fight and it's one of those things where we'll be training together, I'm sure, right afterwards. We know each other very well in terms of defense, offense, counters to each other. So it's gonna be a very interesting fight, a very fun fight. We've both been training really hard for it." [7:25]
She added:
"I see who she's bringing in for camp. I know she sees who I've been training with for camp. We'll see who has the best gameplan at the end of the day... I think all of it. I think that it depends on the level you're at but usually you train how you fight and that's just how it is. Some people kind of have that mental barrier to where they train better than they fight."
