Team Bahrain have won the inaugural MMA Super Cup. Bahrain defeated Ireland in the finals of the tournament, which was held at the Khalifa Sports City Arena from March 8 to March 12.
The host nation had a clean sweep in the final match and won all nine bouts to win the trophy with a score of 9-0. Bahrain entered the match with a 2-0 advantage after the withdrawal of two Irish fighters.
Sabrina Laurentina de Souza then secured the first win for Bahrain, after which Haji Mohamed Ali, Kurban Idrisov, Magomed Isaev, Ramazan Gitinov, Gadzhi Gadzhiev and Gustavo Lopez also registered wins. Five out of these seven wins came via stoppages.
Along with the trophy, Bahrain won the prize money of $100,000. Ireland, meanwhile, went home with the runners-up prize money of $75,000.
Kazakhstan finished third in the MMA Super Cup with a win over Mexico in the bronze medal match. The team had a complete sweep, winning 9-0. Six fighters picked up wins through actual fights, while three secured victories via walkover.
Neimat Assadov, Alik Domnich and Rassul Khatayev secured submission wins in their respective bouts. Ayan Tursyn, Zhanibek Tynyshtyk and Anatoliy Zolotykh, meanwhile, won their contests on the scorecards.
By finishing third, Kazakhstan won a prize money of $50,000. Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation (BMMAF) president Mohammed Qambar, BRAVE Combat Federation president Mohammed Shahid and International Mixed Martial Arts president Kerrith Brown presented the medals to the winners.
