MMA surgeon Dr. David Abbasi is no stranger to sports injuries. In a recent tweet, the orthopedic surgeon gave his expert analysis on why Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed during Monday night's game against The Bengals.

Hamlin took a hard hit to the chest while engaging in a tackle during the first quarter of the NFL contest. Although the 24-year-old managed to get back up, he quickly collapsed back to the ground.

Dr. David Abbasi predicted that the athlete's collapse was likely due to a medical condition called Commotio Cordis, which is caused by a lower chest wall impact:

"Damar Hamlin's scary collapse on the NFL field was likely due to a medical condition known as Commotio Cordis. Essentially, it's a violent blow to the left side of the chest, right over the heart. And it is done during a certain vulnerable portion of the upstroke of the T wave during the heartbeat you can collapse... What can happen is you get absence of electrical activity... and [the heart] stops beating."

Dr. David Abbasi added that it was the timely administration of an AED shock by the medical staff that saved the young athlete's life:

"So this is essentially a life-or-death situation and the fast-acting medical responders quickly got him to an area where they can apply an AED device. So basically these devices that are applied to the chest and can shock the heart and that gets the electrical activity back to a normal rhythm that can stabilize him... They saved his life."

After the athlete's heartbeat was restored, he was transferred to UC Medical Center for further treatment. His condition is currently listed as critical.

MMA surgeon Dr. David Abbasi claims Conor McGregor will never be able to make the lightweight limit again

UFC superstar Conor McGregor has put on an insane amount of muscle en route to recovery from his leg break at UFC 264. In a few social media posts during recovery, 'The Notorious' claimed he had hit 190 pounds.

McGregor's new muscular frame has seemingly convinced MMA surgeon Dr. David Abbasi that the Irishman is never again going to step into the octagon as a lightweight.

In a tweet last November, the orthopedic sports surgeon reacted to a recent picture of the Dubliner, saying:

"He’s never making 155 again."

The doctor was seemingly on to something there. Last year, while responding to a fan on Twitter, McGregor confirmed that he would be making his UFC return as a welterweight.
