Nong-O Gaiyanghadao starches Alaverdi Ramazanov in thrilling main event of ONE Friday Fights 1
ONE Championship held its inaugural event at the legendary Lumpinee Stadium with ONE Friday Fights 1. The exciting main event saw ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion Nong-O Gaiyanghadao defend his belt against former ONE bantamweight kickboxing titleholder Alaverdi Ramazanov.
After the ceremonial Wai Kru, Nong-O came out guns blazing after the opening bell, attempting to enter the pocket with his powerful flurries. Ramazanov wisely tried to use his length and height advantage by throwing attacks from a distance.
The euphoric Thai crowd cheered for each strike landed by Nong-O. Ramazanov, however, did the unthinkable by rocking the world champion with a stiff jab at the end of the first round.
In Round 2, Ramazanov smartly doubled his distance strikes and opened a cut on Nong-O's forehead. The Russian striker caught a kick and earned an emphatic sweep to close the round. In round 3, just as Ramazanov was gaining strong momentum, Nong-O decided to up the ante and swarmed his foe with accurate combinations.
The entire Lumpinee Stadium erupted as Nong-O managed to corner Ramazanov and knock him to the floor with a hellacious liver strike. The Russian wasn't able to beat the referee 10-count. The finish came at 2:14 in round 3.
Nong-O Gaiyanghadao successfully defended his world title for a seventh straight time and was awarded a $50,000 performance bonus for his marvelous efforts.
