“ONE is putting respect on jiu-jitsu's name” - Jarred Brooks praises ONE Championship’s submission grappling

Newly-crowned ONE strawweight world champion Jarred Brooks is one of the best grappling-based fighters in MMA today. His perfect blend of frenetic wrestling and unpredictable striking has brought him to the very top of his division. The former amateur wrestling national champion's takedown and top game is near-impossible to stop inside the cage.

Needless to say, 'The Monkey God' is a huge fan of ONE Championship's submission grappling division. Aside from showcasing MMA, Muay Thai and kickboxing, the Asian martial arts organization has focused a lot on elevating their submission grappling arm this year.

After crowning two new world champions and signing some of the very best in jiu-jitsu, sambo, and submission grappling, ONE managed to become a major mover in the sport this year.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Jarred Brooks expressed his thoughts on ONE's foray into the growing sport of submission grappling:

"Yeah, I love the Ruotolo brothers, and I love Mikey Musumeci. They got Shinya Aoki. They got some of the best submission grapplers. Who's that heavyweight? Buchecha. Yeah, Buchecha is an animal, watching him, I wasn't even into jiu-jitsu and watching him fight, and hit that ankle lock. I was like, ‘Oh okay, Buchecha is not one to play with.’ But yeah, I think submission grappling is awesome in ONE Championship, and they should keep doing that. It's a market that is definitely not respected enough. And ONE is putting respect on jiu-jitsu's name."

It would be fun to see Jarred Brooks try his hand at a straight submission grappling match. Perhaps even a mixed-rules bout with ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci. That's something people will definitely pay to see.

Jarred Brooks has a message for his future world title challengers

Fresh from winning the ONE strawweight world title at ONE 164, Jarred Brooks is already addressing the possible challengers to the throne. In an interview with ONE, 'The Monkey God' was in his usual confident self, speaking to his would-be challengers:

"Do you think that you have an advantage against me? I've already out-thought you, and I've already paid attention to you. And you know, I've been stalking your social media for the past year and a half. So I already know you, and hopefully, you get to know me a little bit better. If you've watched my last fight, I'm a magician. I'll change things as quickly as possible against you, the opponent."

Quite a chilling message coming from the confident world champion. One won't be able to spew out these bold words if he's not absolutely sure that he can take anyone on and win. Jarred Brooks is confidence personified.
