Double champion Reinier de Ridder has shown in his run with ONE Championship that he will hunt down challenges. In his seven fights with the promotion, De Ridder has already faced former world champions like Kiamrian Abbasov, Vitaly Bigdash and Aung La N Sang.

At ONE on Prime Video 5, De Ridder will defend his light heavyweight crown against the ONE interim heavyweight world champion Anatoly Malykhin.

On top of his two world title defenses earlier this year, ‘The Dutch Knight’ also competed in a grappling match with Andre Galvao at ONE: X.

In an appearance on the Morning Kombat podcast, the double champion spoke about the possibility of competing in a grappling match down the line:

“Definitely, I’d be down for that, like if they have a good opponent for me. But MMA is the main thing. MMA is the focus.”

He added:

“The focus is definitely in MMA. But if the right name comes along, I’d take a grappling fight. When MMA is done and I’m 40 years old, I’ll do some more masters competitions, I guess.”

At ONE on Prime Video 5 on December 2 (US primetime), De Ridder will defend his light heavyweight title for the first time. On a card full of world championship matches, Reinier de Ridder will look to add another title holder to his resume.

“It’s always the goal to strangle them” – Reinier de Ridder proud to represent the jiu-jitsu community in MMA

Two-division world champion Reinier de Ridder has announced himself as one of the best fighters in the world through his run in ONE Championship. ‘The Dutch Knight’ has captured two world championships and has pulled off submission victories in most of his fights.

The Dutchman remains undefeated in his professional career with no one being able to stop him from implementing his elite grappling. Even though his opponents know what he is going to do in the circle, De Ridder always comes out on top.

Whilst his striking is by no means a flaw in his game, ‘The Dutch Knight’ is one of the few elite specialists in MMA. In the same interview with Morning Kombat, the grappling specialist spoke about his fighting style:

"I’m very proud to be able to represent jiu-jitsu like I do. It’s always the goal to take them [opponents] down. It’s always the goal to strangle them."

At ONE on Prime Video 5, Reinier de Ridder’s grappling will once again be put to the test when he defends his light heavyweight world championship.

His opponent, Anatoly Malykhin, brings a ferocious streak of knockouts into this champion vs. champion match-up.

Amazon Prime Video subscribers across North America can catch the event on US primetime on Friday, December 2, live and for free on the streaming platform.
