Sage Northcutt to make his long-awaited return against Ahmed Mujtaba at ONE Fight Night 10
MMA superstar Sage Northcutt will make his much-anticipated return to action at ONE Fight Night 10 in Broomfield, Colorado on May 5. 'Super' will be participating in a lightweight battle against Pakistani MMA standout Ahmed Mujtaba.
The event will be ONE Championship's first-ever live event on US soil and marks the beginning of Sage Northcutt's comeback tour after a four-year absence from the sport.
In an interview with ONE Championship, the 26-year-old Karate champion said he is very much intent on making a huge statement in his return.
Northcutt said:
“Whether it’s a submission, whether it’s ground-and-pound, or it’s a knockout, whatever it is, everybody wants a finish. That would be the ideal way to win, but you know I’m training for any aspect out there, so that way I’m prepared.”
Northcutt has only been in action once since signing with ONE Championship in 2018. His promotional debut ended in devastating fashion as Brazil's Cosmo Alexandre knocked him unconscious with a thunderous right hand. The young American striker suffered multiple fractures to the face that required surgery and significant recovery time.
After a while, a super fight against former ONE lightweight king and Japanese MMA legend Shinya Aoki was teased but was ultimately scrapped.
As for Ahmed Mujtaba, the Pakistani is on an impressive 2-fight winning streak in the promotion and is looking to score a big win to earn a possible world title shot.
