‘Super’ Sage Northcutt may only be 26 years old, but the Texas native is a bonafide veteran of combat sports.

Training since the age of four, Northcutt has immersed himself in the world of martial arts. His dedication has resulted in him being a part of some of the biggest MMA promotions in the world. On May 5, Northcutt will make his highly anticipated return to the ONE circle as the promotion makes its North American debut with ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video.

Ahead of his first walk to the circle in four years, Sage Northcutt spoke with Great Day Colorado to discuss his upbringing and when he first began training.

“I got into it at four years old actually.”

‘Super’ shared some details on his beginnings as a budding mixed martial artist, saying:

“My dad was one of my coaches growing up and he got me into it. I was doing push-ups and sit-ups at four years old. Started off in karate, then after karate, I was doing kickboxing. By that time I was 10, 11, I was doing wrestling and jiu-jitsu and I started fighting professionally at 17 years old. A very young age.”

Hoping to spoil Sage Northcutt’s return on May 5 will be Pakistani mixed martial arts champion Ahmed Mujtaba. ‘Wolverine’ is coming off back-to-back victories under the ONE Championship banner, scoring finishes against Rahul Raju and Abraao Amorim.

Sage Northcutt open to settling things with Shinya Aoki inside the circle

While Sage Northcutt has been absent from competition for the last four years, the photogenic multi-time karate world champion has stayed active on social media, frequently making Japanese MMA icon Shinya Aoki the target of his verbal jabs. The pair were previously scheduled to meet at ONE on TNT IV in April 2021, but the residual effects of an especially nasty bout with COVID-19 kept Northcutt on the shelf longer than expected.

Speaking with ONE Champion, ‘Super’ revealed that he would love the opportunity to throw hands with Shinya Aoki inside the circle, but is keeping his focus on the task at hand.

“I knew we had some beef going back and forth, me and Shinya [Aoki] on Twitter. That would be a great fight for the future. Right now, I’m focused on me versus Ahmed Mujtaba. But definitely in the future, I would love to fight Shinya.”
