Undefeated Russian Shamil Gasanov hasn’t yet run into a problem that he couldn’t solve once he stepped inside the cage. With a perfect record of 13-0, ‘The Cobra’ is presenting himself as a real threat to ONE Championship’s featherweight division.

After a near flawless debut inside the circle, where he submitted Kim Jae Woong in the first round, Gasanov will face the biggest name that he has ever stood across the cage from next time out.

At ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, he will fight former two-division world champion Martin Nguyen, who has struggled with consistency in recent years. With a win over Nguyen, Shamil Gasanov could find himself right at the top of the division and in line for a shot at the world championship or a title eliminator next time out.

In an interview with ONE Championship, he said that the pressure of being undefeated isn’t something that he thinks about when chasing down the top fighters in his division:

“I do not think about my record. I just get ready for my fights, I go all in. I have never run away from tough opponents to keep a clean record.”

ONE on Prime Video 3: Shamil Gasanov remains unbeaten with quick tap out of Kim Jae Woong

At ONE on Prime Video 3, Shamil Gasanov announced himself to the ONE Championship fans and put the rest of the division on notice when he faced No.2-ranked contender Kim Jae Woong.

The undefeated Russian arrived in the featherweight division and went straight for one of the top fighters on ONE’s roster, but frankly made his victory look easy. In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Gasanov improved his undefeated record to 13-0 by locking up another submission win on his record.

After a feeling-out process early on, Gasanov’s grappling took control of the fight as he looked for a takedown and ended up transitioning to Kim’s back.

Having secured the rear-naked choke just past the two-minute mark of the opening round, it would be difficult to think of a more perfect debut performance for ‘The Cobra’.

The scariest part of this for the other contenders in the featherweight division is that we haven’t seen Gasanov’s full potential yet. Aside from an opening 90 seconds, during which, he looked comfortable striking with his opponent before implementing his grappling game, Gasanov is still somewhat of an unknown quantity.

At ONE Fight Night 7 on February 24, we will find out how Shamil Gasanov deals with the experience and power of Martin Nguyen, the former two-division world champion.
