Stamp Fairtex will compete under Muay Thai rules for the first time in more than two and a half years when she steps inside the circle on January 13.

Meeting her will be seven-time kickboxing and Muay Thai world champion Anissa Meksen, but this won’t be your standard Muay Thai clash. At ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video, Stamp and Meksen will compete in the first women’s mixed-rules bout where rounds alternate between the rule sets of Muay Thai and mixed martial arts.

As a result, Stamp Fairtex is readying herself for a battle on the feet and on the ground. Sharing some details on her preparations for the highly-anticipated clash, Stamp told the South China Morning Post:

“I’ve been practicing a lot of Muay Thai because Anissa is a very very good striker and Anissa’s footwork is very great. So I’ve been practicing that and also practicing takedowns.”

After coming up short in her first MMA world title bid at ONE X, Stamp got back to winning ways at ONE on Prime Video 2, defeating Jihin ‘Shadow Cat’ Radzuan via unanimous decision. That same night, Meksen earned her third-straight victory inside the circle, defeating Dangkongfah Banchamek by way of a unanimous decision.

Stamp Fairtex looks to close the distance against Anissa Meksen

Facing a world-renowned striker and a seven-time world champion, Stamp Fairtex plans on closing the distances to shut down Anissa Meksen’s biggest weapons at ONE Fight Night 6. Continuing her conversation with SCMP MMA, Stamp detailed the importance of working the clinch against Meksen.

“I’m planning to do the clinch and be really close to her because she’s [Anissa] is very good at striking. I would try to stay as close as possible and also use a lot of knees.”

The first-ever mixed-rules superfight between Muay Thai star Rodtang Jitmuangnon and MMA legend Demetrious Johnson saw the latter competing for a world title in his next bout after the win. With both Stamp and Meksen aiming for ONE Championship gold, they could potentially follow the same path as ‘Mighty Mouse’ and contend for a world title if they pick up a win later this month.

Will Stamp Fairtex continue to stand above the rest in the atomweight division or is it Anissa Meksen’s time to shine?
