Filipino star Stephen Loman has just secured the biggest fight of his career as he gears up to take on Brazilian legend Bibiano Fernandes in his continued rise to the top of ONE Championship’s bantamweight division.

Loman’s crucial bout against Fernandes, the former ONE bantamweight world champion, is scheduled for ONE on Prime Video 4: Abbasov vs. Lee on November 18 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The No.4-ranked bantamweight contender has been on a tear since arriving in ONE Championship in December 2021. Loman made a stunning debut when he scored a second-round knockout against Yusup Saadulaev at ONE: Winter Warriors II.

He then followed up that win with a unanimous decision victory over Shoko Sato at ONE X this past March.

Stephen Loman, in an interview with ONE Championship, spoke about his upcoming fight against Fernandes:

“I’m so happy about this opportunity. Now the people will get to see the results of all the hard work and training that I’ve done. I’m truly excited about this bout. Bibiano’s one of the top contenders still in the division so a win here and I could be next in line for the title.”

Fernandes, however, could pose a huge threat to Loman’s rise in the division. ‘The Flash’ is two-time bantamweight champion. His first reign as champion lasted from 2013 until 2018 followed by the next from 2019 until his loss to John Lineker earlier this year.

The No.1 bantamweight contender is 12-2 inside the circle, including a streak of 10 straight wins when he began his ONE Championship tenure. Fernandes, to say the least, is a monster having beaten the likes of Kevin Belingon, Reece McLaren, and Martin Nguyen.

Nevertheless, Loman knows that the fight against Fernandes is a career-defining one. It’s plausible that if Loman takes the win in Singapore, then a world title shot could be his next match inside the circle.

Stephen Loman believes he has the key to beating Bibiano Fernandes

Long before his fight against Fernandes was announced, Stephen Loman already knew that a match against the former bantamweight king would be on the horizon.

Loman is already familiar with Fernandes after watching his stable-mate Belingon match up against the Brazilian legend four times.

In a previous interview with ONE Championship, ‘The Sniper’ said that he feels he has the strength to beat Fernandes.

“It’s about pressuring him. Could be in striking, wrestling, or on the ground. It’s all the facets of MMA.”
