At ONE Fight Night 8 on March 24, Superlek Kiatmoo9 will look to make the first defense of his flyweight kickboxing world championship.

‘The Kicking Machine’ defeated Spain’s Daniel Puertas at ONE Fight Night 6 in January to win the vacant title after it was vacated by Ilias Ennahachi. On the same night, Puertas’ originally scheduled opponent, ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon, also picked up a win under the kickboxing ruleset.

Setting up a huge fight between the two elite Thai strikers, Superlek will be attempting to deny his opponent the status of being a two-sport titleholder. Despite his challenger’s run of dominant performances as the flyweight Muay Thai king, he believes that ‘The Iron Man’ has a style that is even more suited for kickboxing than it is Muay Thai.

In an interview with ONE Championship, the newly crowned kickboxing world champ said:

“Rodtang’s strength is his aggressive style. He has a dangerous left hook, low punch, and leg kick. I think his style is more compatible with kickboxing rules than Muay Thai.”

‘The Kicking Machine’ will look to end his challenger’s dominant streak under the ONE Championship banner when the two elite Thai strikers face-off in the main event live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Lito Adiwang talks about what Superlek needs to do to beat Rodtang

Ahead of ONE Fight Night 8 on March 24, strawweight contender Lito Adiwang has been giving his thoughts on the upcoming main event, which features Superlek Kiatmoo9 defending his flyweight kickboxing world championship for the first time.

Not only does March 24 mark his first title defense, it will also be one of the biggest fights of the champion's career as he faces ONE flyweight Muay Thai king Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

As one of the most feared and dominant competitors on the roster, ‘The Kicking Machine’ will no doubt have his work cut out for him in Singapore, but there are paths to victory for him.

With such a clear clash of styles between the elite Thai strikers, the common consensus is that the champion can defend his title if he is able to use his range to stop ‘The Iron Man’ from relentlessly walking him down and throwing combinations.

Speaking exclusively to Sportskeeda MMA, Lito Adiwang said:

“I think this fight will truly be an exciting fight with both fighters throwing some hard shots. But I also feel that Superlek could play smart in this game especially since this is in kickboxing. Superlek will do a hit-and-run approach here I think. I feel that’s his way to get the win here.”
