American submission grappler Tammi Musumeci started in jiu-jitsu at an early age and has never looked back since.

The elder sibling of ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci shared that the sport was a big part of her life growing up and has given a lot to her.

Speaking to ONE Championship ahead of her scheduled fight next week at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video against Brazilian Bianca Basilio, Tammi Musumeci relayed how she started in jiu-jitsu and the effect it had on her.

She said:

“I had a pretty good childhood. I grew up in the suburbs in New Jersey. When I was 13, my family moved to Florida. I feel like a big thing about my childhood was jiu-jitsu. It’s always hard to move when you’re younger, and I feel like jiu-jitsu was the thing that stayed the same.
“I started [competing] when I was 7 or 8. Just local tournaments. I didn’t have as much success competing early on. I feel like I got better over time. I competed against, I’d say, 99 per cent guys up until I was a 16-year-old.”

Tammi Musumeci’s strawweight submission grappling showdown with Bianca Basilio on March 24 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium will be her debut in ONE Championship.

Prior to joining ONE, she was a decorated jiu-jitsu athlete representing the United States. Among her accomplishments are winning the gold medal at the 2019 IBJJF World Championship and the 2022 IBJJF No-Gi world title. Outside of competition, she is an attorney.

Out to spoil her promotional debut is Basilio, who is coming off a submission victory in her maiden ONE outing back in November 2022.

All ONE Fight Night events are broadcast live and for free in North America via Prime Video.

Tammi Musumeci to make her ONE Championship debut in a grappling showdown with Bianca Basilio

Champion American jiu-jitsu fighter Tammi Musumeci will be making her ONE Championship debut later this month in a showdown with Brazilian Bianca Basilio.

The sister of ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci is looking to extend her success in ONE, where she is expected to be one of the athletes to contend with in submission grappling.

Tammi Musumeci’s ONE journey starts at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video on March 24 in Singapore against Bianca Basilio in a featured strawweight grappling contest.

SCMP Martial Arts was one of the outlets that broke Musumeci’s scheduled ONE debut, posting on Instagram:

“Tammi Musumeci, the older sister of ONE flyweight submission grappling champ @mikeymusumeci, is set to debut with the promotion at #ONEFightNight8 on March 25 in Singapore... The four-time no-Gi champ will meet @biabasiliojj in a strawweight grappling contest. Basilio impressed in her ONE debut last November, submitting Milena Sakumoto in less than a minute.”
