Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Tammi Musumeci made a successful ONE Championship debut this past weekend and is setting her sights on further success under the promotion.

The elder sister of reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci, Tammi won her debut outing at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video on March 24 in Singapore. She defeated Brazilian Bianca Basilio by unanimous decision in their submission grappling showdown.

Following her victory, Tammi Musumeci shared that as she continues her ONE Championship journey, like her brother Mikey Musumeci, she wants to become a world titleholder.

In fact, she is targeting not just one, but two world championship belts, namely the women’s strawweight and flyweight submission grappling world titles once they are offered down the line.

The American submission grappler said in the post-event interview:

“I’m just very thankful to be here but my goal is to eventually compete for the 115-pound and 125-pound belts.”

Prior to joining ONE, Tammi Musumeci was a decorated jiu-jitsu athlete representing the United States. Among her accomplishments are winning the gold medal at the 2019 IBJJF World Championship and the 2022 IBJJF No-Gi world title. Outside of competition, she is an attorney.

Tammi Musumeci details how she grew up training jiu-jitsu

Decorated submission grappler Tammi Musumeci had her start in jiu-jitsu quite early in life and it has become deeply ingrained in her ever since.

Older sister to ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci, Tammi shared that the sport has molded her not only as a fighter but also as an individual outside of competition.

Speaking to ONE Championship in the lead-up to her recent fight ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video in Singapore last weekend, Tammi Musumeci shared how she started in jiu-jitsu and the effect it had on her.

She said:

“I had a pretty good childhood. I grew up in the suburbs in New Jersey. When I was 13, my family moved to Florida. I feel like a big thing about my childhood was jiu-jitsu. It’s always hard to move when you’re younger, and I feel like jiu-jitsu was the thing that stayed the same.

She added:

“I started [competing] when I was 7 or 8. Just local tournaments. I didn’t have as much success competing early on. I feel like I got better over time. I competed against, I’d say, 99 percent guys up until I was a 16-year-old.”

Tammi Musumeci made a successful promotional debut at ONE Fight Night 8, defeating Brazilian Bianca Basilio in their grappling showdown by unanimous decision.

Now part of ONE Championship, Tammi joins her brother as among the faces of submission grappling in the promotion, along with ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion Kade Ruotolo, his brother Tye, and American Danielle Kelly.
