Tawanchai is looking to challenge himself in ONE Championship

Tawanchai PK.Saenchai has already established himself as one of the best Muay Thai fighters on the planet.

Off the back of a great 2022 for the 23-year-old, he earned the ONE Championship Muay Thai Fighter of the Year. That accolade came after he went undefeated in three fights on his way to becoming the ONE featherweight Muay Thai world champion.

Ahead of his first title defense at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, the world champion has been speaking about potentially expanding his skillset. In an interview with ONE Championship, he said:

“I actually like all martial arts. I want to try everything, but I’d like to focus on Muay Thai and kickboxing for now.”

ONE Championship has established itself as the home of martial arts, hosting various disciplines all under the ONE banner.

With Tawanchai competing alongside the very best mixed martial artists, kickboxers and submission grapplers, the roster is made up of elite competitors across all rulesets.

Whilst he is currently focused on defending his world championship on February 24, the opportunity is always there to take himself out of his comfort zone inside the circle.

If he continues to dominate the featherweight Muay Thai division, the world champion could start to look elsewhere for a new challenge. Kickboxing, MMA, and mixed-rules bouts could be on the cards for the young star in the future.

Tawanchai can’t wait to step into Lumpinee Boxing Stadium to fight

Before venturing to other disciplines, Tawanchai PK.Saenchai will step foot on familiar territory on February 24. At ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, he will defend his world championship for the first time in the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok.

February 24 marks a return for the 23-year-old to an arena that has been significant in his career. Being a former Lumpinee Stadium Fighter of the Year, the titleholder will no doubt feel at home when he steps inside the legendary venue.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Tawanchai spoke about what it means to compete at Lumpinee and the legacy that the building holds inside of its walls:

“It’s the nostalgic feeling. Lumpinee is the most respected stadium, which has accommodated the best Muay Thai fighters. There are so many that become well-known after fighting in this stadium.”

Looking to continue his momentum from a stellar 2022, Tawanchai will face featherweight contender Jamal Yusupov in the first defense of his Muay Thai world championship.

With three consecutive victories inside the circle under his belt, Yusupov is the clear contender for the belt and is currently the No.2-ranked fighter in the division.

Scheduled to take place in the co-main event of the evening, their fight at ONE Fight Night 7 will be live and free for North American viewers with a Prime Video subscription.
