It seems Tom Aspinall is finally moving on from the Jon Jones fight. For months now, the British interim UFC heavyweight champion has been campaigning hard for a unification bout with 'Bones', who has been accused by fans and the media of ducking.

In a video released on social media, Aspinall spoke to fellow British UFC star Paddy Pimblett after training together in the gym. He said:

"It's all in the past now. We're moving forward. Everything's good. We can get fighting again. I just want to get fighting, mate...You know what, it's better now because I do know what's going on, a little bit. I'm going to fight soon, so that's nice."

"Money, fame, titles, rankings -- all that aside, I just love fighting. I just like fighting people. That's what I got into it for. I didn't get into it for anything else. All the other stuff are just nice to have on top. I wanna be the best fighter I can be. I love it. I'm in the gym everyday. I just want to fight. That's been taken away from me for like, nearly a year now. And that's got nothing to do with me...But we are nearly over it now, which is good."

Jon Jones asks fans to write essays on why he should fight Tom Aspinall

Late last month, a petition was started by MMA fans to strip Jon Jones off his UFC heavyweight title, due to his lengthy absence from the sport and the long delay of the Aspinall fight negotiations. As of this writing, the petition has over 190,000 signatures and counting.

In a recent tweet, Jones addressed the petition again and suggested another thing the fans can do:

"Instead of signing some petition, I’m gonna need at least 200 five-page essays from TA fans around the world. Double spaced, MLA format. Convince me. My team will pick their favorites and get back to you… eventually."

Jon Jones then turned his attention to former UFC heavyweight champ and current PFL heavyweight king Francis Ngannou, saying:

"I’m hearing Francis Ngannou is still interested… now we’re talking. That’s a real super fight. A clash of champions, not just hype. He held the UFC belt, I’ve defended mine for over a decade. Two kings from different roads. Not just one legend facing a mouth that’s hot right now, but two real legacies colliding. That’s the kind of fight that actually adds something special to my story. šŸ‘‘šŸ”„ At least from my point of view."
