At ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video, Tye Ruotolo will compete in a submission grappling contest that fans have wanted to see for a long time.
At ONE Championship’s debut live event in the United States, the no gi specialist will take on one of the best grapplers in MMA, ONE middleweight world champion Reinier de Ridder.
Whilst Tye would seemingly have a technical advantage thanks to his time being fully committed to competing in submission grappling, ‘The Dutch Knight’ will have a size advantage.
As the former ONE light heavyweight world champion, de Ridder will need to use his physical attributes to his advantage. In preparation for this, Tye has been putting on some added muscle mass to make sure that the size discrepancy between the two isn’t as wide of a margin.

In an interview with ONE Championship, he spoke about his preparations for the contest:
“I’ve been bulking to catch up a little bit to close the distance. I’m currently up in high 180s or low 190s [pounds]. I’m sitting right around there. My weight fluctuates so much every day. Some days I eat a lot, and some days I eat too much.”
Marvel at Reinier de Ridder’s insane submission that choked out Vitaly Bigdash
Whilst Tye Ruotolo may be one of the best submission grappling competitors in the world right now, as proven by his accolades at ADCC, he can’t afford to overlook ONE middleweight world champion Reinier de Ridder.
At ONE Fight Night 10 on May 5, the former two-division world champion will return to competition after tasting defeat for the very first time in his career.
With 11 of his 16 wins coming by way of submission, ‘The Dutch Knight’ has been able to use his grappling skills to dominate nearly every one of the opponents he has faced in his career.
A prime example came at ONE 159, where de Ridder continued his incredible unbeaten streak by defeating former middleweight king Vitaly Bigdash.
With the defending world champion’s prowess, many expected Bigdash to avoid locking up with him but this isn’t how the fight played out at all. After trying to catch his opponent with a guillotine, Bigdash quickly found himself on the opposite end of a submission attempt that had fans jaws hitting the floor.
