Filipino rising star Denice Zamboanga is one of the most exciting female athletes to watch out for in the atomweight division.

A warrior to the core, ‘The Menace’ is outstanding in the delivery of her performances. Although she’s had ups and downs in her career, Denice Zamboanga has consistently finished her matches with unlimited aggression and heart, which is one of the reasons why she’s so dear to the Filipino MMA community.

One of the most memorable fights she’s ever had under the promotion has to be her firefight against Lin Heqin at ONE on Prime Video 5: De Ridder vs. Malykhin.

Going in, ‘The Menace’ was disappointed in herself for losing to rival Ham Seo Hee twice, but she came back strong.

Zamboanga’s hard-hitting power was obvious from the start, dropping Lin in the first 30 seconds of the match. However, Lin responded a few seconds later with a big right of her own to destabalize her fiery competitor.

The fight continued to go back and forth but Zamboanga got the better of those exchanges, landing more powerful and devastating shots. Both women but on a heroic performance and didn’t quit until the very end. After a closely-contested matchup, Zamboanga got the nod by split-decision.

Denice Zamboanga is locked and loaded for her first MMA match of 2023

‘The Menace’ Denice Zamboanga is thrilled to get back inside the cage and start her year strong with another MMA victory.

On April 21, the Filipino stalwart is slated to face Brazilian powerhouse Julie Mezabarba in an atomweight clash at ONE Fight Night 9 on Prime Video.

Unlike her opponent, Zamboanga is headed to her first match of the year with great momentum. Her win against Lin Heqin pushed her to No. 3 in the rankings, so she’s almost one or two fights away from getting a world title shot.

Conversely, Julie Mezabarba is in the midst of a two-year slump. She has back-to-back decision losses against Stamp Fairtex and Jenelyn Olsim. Although her record isn’t in the best shape right now, it doesn’t reflect who she is as a fighter.

The Brazilian brown belt came into the promotion strong and eager to win in 2021. Her debut victory against former world title challenger Mei ‘V.V’ Yamaguchi, is a testament to the quality of fighter she truly is.

Physically strong and dangerous on the ground, she will pose a serious threat to Denice Zamboanga if her takedown defense is not up to par.

ONE Fight Night 9 goes down on April 21 at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. The entire card is available live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.
