Joe Rogan was of vital assistance to Herb Dean in a main-card bout at UFC 285. The UFC color commentator brought something to Dean's attention that called a pause to the action mid-fight.

Shavkat Rakhmonov dropped his mouthpiece in the opening round of his welterweight clash against Geoff Neal. The Kazakh phenom continued to fight, even appearing to be completely unaware of losing his mouthpiece.

While the commentary booth quickly noticed the malfunction, Herb Dean failed to see it until Joe Rogan took off his headset and yelled from cage side to bring it to the referee's attention. When the action was eventually paused, Dean did not know where Rakhmonov's gumshield was and had to look for it along with the fighter.

"He didn't know. If I didn't tell him, he wouldn't know," said Rogan

Suggesting a parallel job profile for his fellow commentator, Daniel Cormier said:

"Hey Joe, you got two jobs now, commentator, officiating assistant"

While both fighters went toe-to-toe in the opening frame, Rakhmonov started outstriking Neal as the fight progressed. However, 'Handz of Steel' did an excellent job of defending takedowns even in the third round despite being bloodied up. 'Nomad' eventually sunk in a standing rear-naked choke that handed Neal the first stoppage loss of his career.

Joe Rogan is a fan of Shavkat Rakhmonov

Joe Rogan was a fan of Shavkat Rakhmonov before the entire MMA community started taking notice of the Kazakh sensation.

Rakhmonov was coming off his third straight UFC win via finish when Rogan brought 'Nomad' to the notice of lightweight legend B.J. Penn during an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. The UFC color commentator said:

“You know you think, you think of a guy like that, you think of a wrestler. But this guy, although he is absolutely a good Grappler, his kicks are f**king insane. He can wrestle too, but as a striker is where he really shines. He throws nasty kicks to the body. Just a really good striker, tough as f**k, and undefeated. But he’s like a guy that’s not getting a lot of hype for whatever reason, but I think he’s someone to keep an eye on."

Joe Rogan donned the traditional Kazakh headgear gifted to him by Rakhmonov as he interviewed the welterweight contender post-fight.
