WATCH: Reinier de Ridder “plays it safe” by sparring with a smaller opponent

Dutch superstar Reinier de Ridder will make his second submission grappling appearance at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video, taking on a smaller opponent in Tye Ruotolo.

The 6 foot 4 de Ridder, who is the current ONE middleweight world champion, will tower over his next opponent by about six inches. Ruotolo is accustomed to grappling against smaller competitors inside the circle like Garry Tonon and Marat Gafurov.

In fact, Ruotolo called for a match against Reinier de Ridder following his victory over Gafurov. Their rivalry began when the ONE middleweight world champion grappled against Ruotolo's jiu-jitsu coach, Andre Galvao, at ONE X in March 2022.

The Ruotolo brothers have been eyeing a match with Reinier de Ridder for several months

Reinier de Ridder has been on the Ruotolo brothers' radar for quite some time. Kade Ruotolo called for a match with the middleweight king at the ONE on Prime Video 5 post-fight presser, saying:

“When de Ridder gets all healed up, I'll be stoked to put a D'arce on him. Like you said though, [de Ridder] had a pretty rough one tonight, that KO finish was nasty ... When he has recovered and [is] ready for it, I think a jiu-jitsu match with him is probably not as intimidating as someone like Anatoly."

Kade added:

"It was actually Tye who really wants that matchup. Tye's actually been looking for that one for a minute now. Both of us are open to it, for sure. I'd be more than willing to get in there with him."

Tye will look to nullify his size disadvantage and score a victory over the larger de Ridder.
