Charles Oliveira retained the UFC lightweight title against Dustin Poirier, extending his winning streak to 9 in the process. The Brazilian phenom submitted Poirier in the third round with a rear naked choke.
What will hurt Dustin Poirier the most is perhaps the fact that he was undone by a rear naked choke in both his attempts at securing UFC lightweight gold. The first time being against Khabib Nuragomedov at UFC 242 back in September 2019.
In fact, going into this matchup, Poirier had mentioned he was going to look out for situations where he could be forced to give up his back and avoid them at all costs. However, 'The Diamond' was unable to keep Oliveira off his back, which isn't surprising considering the champions' track record.
