Fans gave mixed reactions to a social media post praising Jon Jones' chin. Jones ruled the light heavyweight division for the better part of a decade and has defeated some of the greatest fighters in the division's history. Despite this, the 37-year-old has never been knocked out or knocked down in his professional MMA career.
A post on @Home_of_Fight X listed Jones as one of the three UFC fighters with "granite chins" along with Pedro Munhoz and Marlon 'Chito' Vera. Max Holloway, another fighter praised for his legendary chin, suffered his first KO loss against Ilia Topuria at UFC 308. In light of this, the post asked fans to predict which of the remaining three fighters could get knocked out next.
Fans took to the comments section and shared their thoughts on the claim that Jones has one of the toughest chins to crack.
"Jones will duck the only man who can crack it and Pedro will retire soon so I’ll say Chito. It’s already getting dicey after what Goblin Figgy did to him," @BrisFrog commented.
"Jon Jones does not have a chin like Holloway, Munoz or chito, he just manages distance and has a good defense," @dr_saxk commented.
"John Jones p4p for a reason. No one comes close," @CryptoJohan_ commented.
"It’s almost impossible to even get near Jon Jones because of his massive height and reach advantage, which he’s the best at using too. And if you get too close, he’ll just rag doll you and beat you senseless on the ground. That’s why he’s a bloody cheat code," @redk0va commented.
"Have a feeling it's going to be Jon Jones," @nkrishnatweets commented.
"Jon is getting strung out , coked out, coming out, but never knocked out," @curlybob commented.
"Jon Jones never fought a truly hard hitter, Ngannou or Anthony Johnson would’ve chin him," @SuikaMMAZone commented.
Former rival questions Jon Jones' ability to take a punch - "I just feel like he might not have a chin"
Jon Jones captured the UFC heavyweight strap in his divisional debut when he defeated Ciryl Gane in the vacant title fight in March 2023. He is set to attempt his first heavyweight title defense against former two-time champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 on Nov. 16.
Many favor Jones to pull off a victory due to Miocic's age and long leave of absence from the sport. However, former UFC light heavyweight champion and one of Jones' fierce rivals, 'Quinton Rampage' Jackson thinks Jones' chin might not be as strong as people believe.
In an episode of the Jaxxon podcast, 'Rampage' told Miocic:
“I think you will be the first one to beat him. I just feel like he might not have a chin, based off the way he fights. He makes it so hard for people to get in close enough to punch him. His whole style was putting his fingers in your eyes and kicking your knee back — keeping you away from him. He keeps you at his length where he wants you. You’re a taller guy and you’ve got longer arms than most people he fights. I don’t think he can do all that to you.”
