A Conor McGregor fight versus Michael Chandler makes sense, but he needs to collect wins, says Aljamain Sterling

Aljamain Sterling has sounded off on the possibility of Michael Chandler fighting Conor McGregor when the former two-division UFC champion returns to the octagon.

Sterling uploaded a video to his YouTube channel where he mentioned that the likelihood of the bout coming to fruition would depend on various factors:

"You gotta eventually win to keep your job. I would like to see him do the Eddie Alvarez vs. Chandler 3. Have them do that in the UFC, one final song...or sign him [Chandler] up for McGregor, see who gets fed to who. I would like to see where McGregor is at mentally, physically."

Obviously, a bout against 'Mystic Mac' is significant for a fighter's career because of the attention he garners, which also benefits his opponents. Not only is it a lucrative bout, but his opponents get an opportunity to grow their following.

'Funkmaster' described what the former Bellator lightweight champion will need to do to improve his chances of earning the fight:

"I think at this point Chandler is in need of a big win. He needs to win, Yeah, he's fighting the best guys, but let's be honest here. You can fight as many of the best guys as you want, if you're not winning, you're not winning. And you're getting paid big bucks, you need to win. Even on a minute level, you need to win somehow someway."

Conor McGregor is currently filming a movie after recovering from his leg injury and will need to re-enter the USADA for 6 months. Until then, it could serve Chandler well if he accepts another fight and gets back on track in the lightweight division.

Will Conor McGregor ever fight at lightweight again?

Despite his most recent fight against Dustin Poirier being contested at 155lbs, it would be interesting to see if Conor McGregor ever returns to lightweight. The Irishman has put on a considerable amount of size and it looks doubtful whether he wants to cut a lot of weight moving on.

The UFC might have a formula that works by having McGregor fight lightweight fighters at 170lbs. Michael Chandler recently offered to fight 'Mystic Mac' at welterweight as a way to entice the former two-division champion to accept.

If 'Iron' ends up getting the fight at 170lbs, other lightweights could see that as an opportunity and offer to do the same.
