UFC News: Indian fighter given 2-year ban along with another UFC fighter
- These two UFC fighters won't be seen on the promotion for a while!
What's the story?
Two UFC fighters won't be happy with a judgement they may deem as excessively harsh by USADA. The United States Anti-Doping Agency recently hit two UFC fighters with a two-year ban, following separate violations of the USADA policies.
While Stefan Sekulic was found positive for drostanolone and metandienone, the Indian Fighter, Bharat Vijay Kandare tested positive for exogenous boldenone and its metabolites, as well as a metabolite of tamoxifen.
In case you didn't know...
Bharat Vijay Kandare was choked out by Song Yadong earlier in his UFC career when he made his debut at UFC Shanghai. Kandare was set to fight against Wuliji Buren at UFC 227 in August, but the drug violations prevented the fight from actually happening.
Stefan Sekulic debuted earlier this year at UFC Moscow against Ramazan Emeev against whom he suffered a loss following 3 rounds, via a Unanimous Decision.
The heart of the matter
USADA released a statement about both fighters.
Kandare, 31, tested positive for exogenous boldenone and its metabolites, as well as a metabolite of tamoxifen, following an out-of-competition test conducted on July 23, 2018. Boldenone is a non-Specified Substance in the class of Anabolic Agents and tamoxifen is a Specified Substance in the class of Hormone and Metabolic Modulators. Both substances are prohibited at all times under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, which has adopted the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List.
Sekulic, 26, tested positive for drostanolone and its metabolites, as well as a metabolite of metandienone, following an in-competition test conducted at UFC Fight Night in Moscow, Russia, on September 15, 2018. These are non-Specified Substances in the class of Anabolic Agents and prohibited at all times under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, which has adopted the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List.
Both Stefan Sekulic and Bharat Vijay Kandare have accepted the bans handed out by USADA.
The two fighters were both handed out a two-year ban following these violations, which is a long time to spend on the sidelines.Published 19 Dec 2018, 09:45 IST
