UFC News: Valentina Shevchenko set to defend Flyweight Championship in early 2020

According to an initial report from ESPN, current UFC Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko will be returning to the Octagon in early 2020 in order to make the next defense of her title.

As reported, Shevchenko will be stepping into the Octagon against the #1 ranked fighter in the division in the form of Katlyn Chookagian.

Valentina Shevchenko's reign as UFC Flyweight Champion

At UFC 231, Valentina Shevchenko faced the returning Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the vacant UFC Flyweight Championship and defeated the latter via unanimous decision in a back-and-forth fight to win the UFC Flyweight Title and mark her first championship win in the promotion.

In her first title defense, Shevchenko defeated Jessica Eye at UFC 238 and followed it up with a title defense against Liz Carmouche at UFC on ESPN 14+ in a fight that Shevchenko won via unanimous decision.

Shevchenko vs Chookagian set for UFC 247

'Bullet' Valentina Shevchenko will reportedly be making her return to the Octagon on the 8th of February, 2020, as she is set for her next title defense against #1 ranked Flyweight Division fighter Katlyn Chookagian.

The fight is yet to be confirmed by the UFC, however, the promotion will be looking to sell-out the Toyota Center in Houston in February. The fight will also mark Shevchenko's third title defense, whereas, Chookagian is on an impressive 6-2 record in the UFC.
