What's the story?

According to several rumours on social media, UFC could be set for a big fight in the coming months. The Heavyweight Title scene in the UFC is in somewhat of a flux. While Daniel Cormier is the champion at this point, his possible retirement in March might open up the title picture completely.

According to the rumours, UFC could be working towards a fight between Stipe Miocic and Cain Velasquez in the coming months.

In case you didn't know...

Cain Velasquez was one of the best fighters in the Heavyweight Division in the UFC. With the exception of a loss to Junior Dos Santos and another to Fabricio Werdum, Velasquez has been dominant in the UFC with 12 wins for the promotion in the last 12 years.

The last two were not good years for Velasquez as he was unable to compete in the UFC for a long time. Following his win against Travis Browne, he was set to face Werdum at UFC 207 in December of 2016. Unfortunately, the Nevada Athletic Commission deemed him incapable of fighting at the event as physical examination revealed he had bone spurs in his back.

The heart of the matter

If the rumours are true, then Cain Velasquez could be soon set to return in the UFC for a fight against the number 1 ranked Heavyweight after Title Holder Daniel Cormier, Stipe Miocic.

While Miocic had a great start to 2018, defeating Francis Ngannou, his luck did not continue later in the year. At UFC 226, he faced off against Daniel Cormier for the UFC Heavyweight Title in a fight he was favoured to win.

He was knocked out by Cormier in the first round and lost the title. He has since claimed that Cormier should give him a rematch for the Championship, but at the moment this does not seem to be happening.

What's next?

A fight between Cain Velasquez and Stipe Miocic would be the perfect addition to the UFC 233 card, which is going head to head against Bellator 214.
