Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko ended in controversy over the weekend, partially thanks to Dave Moretti.

'The Dream' and 'Loma' faced off in an ESPN pay-per-view main event over the weekend. In the build to the fight, many believed the lightweight title bout was one of the best matchups of the year. It looked that way on fight night.

The two lightweight contenders went back and forth for 12 rounds, with many believing the Ukrainian did much of the better work. In the 10th round, fans saw Haney badly stunned for the first time in his career. Lomachenko landed massive shots in the round, but the champion was able to survive.

In the end, it was Devin Haney who retained the unified lightweight gold by unanimous decision. The decision was very controversial, with many, including former champions such as Oscar De La Hoya, stating that Lomachenko deserved the victory.

However, the result only became more controversial when the judges' scorecards were released. Judge Dave Moretti, one of the most recognizable boxing judges in Las Vegas, scored the tenth round for Haney.

Considering the one-sided nature of the 10th round, which saw 'Loma' clearly get the better of Haney, fans have expressed their discontent with Moretti's scorecard.

Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko: 'Loma' reacts to result

Following Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko, fans got a rare glimpse at the Ukranian's mentality.

It's easy to forget, but this time last year, 'Loma' was busy defending his home country. Following the invasion of Russia into Ukraine in March, the lightweight returned home, and enlisted.

While he was granted leave to go and compete for the world title, he came up short on Saturday night. While it was a controversial result with many fans believing Lomachenko won, that means little. Given his age in the division, this was one of his last cracks at the title.

Following the loss to Devin Haney, a video emerged of Vasiliy Lomachenko crying in his locker room. The former champion later attended the post-fight press conference and discussed his emotions. There, the normally stoic-Lomachenko stated that the outpouring of emotions happened after remembering his son, and their conversations pre-fight.

At the post-fight presser, he stated:

"I just remember my son today called me seven times, and every time he would tell me: 'And the new! And the new!', and at this moment, I remember this moment. It was very hard for me."
