Glover Teixeira will get an opportunity to regain the light heavyweight championship when he challenges Jiri Prochazka in a rematch of their UFC 275 bout, which many consider a Fight of the Year candidate.

Despite it being fight week for UFC 281, it hasn’t stopped the promotion from beginning to generate interest for UFC 282, which takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 10. During Glover Teixeira's media availability, he was asked what he said to Prochazka during their faceoff and he responded by saying it was a comment about his hair:

“You cut your hair, you lose your power man, cause that was crazy with the last round finish, you know, that was maybe the hair.”

It’s clear that based on what transpired in their first bout, both fighters wanted a rematch, and the promotion eventually booked it for the December event. The former champion was happy with the decision and didn’t dwell on the possibility of the promotion going in an another direction for ‘Denisa’s first title defense:

“I usually don’t pay attention. I was positive the whole time the rematch was going to happen. I don’t let any of those thoughts come into my head to be like scared that it’s not going to happen. No, whatever is meant to be will be and this is it, here we are with the rematch. Everybody want it, all the fans want it, and the UFC make it happen.”

‘Denisa’ will also be motivated for the rematch because Teixeira was ahead on the judges’ scorecards, which could’ve resulted in a different outcome if he didn’t submit him.

Will Glover Teixeira retire after UFC 282?

Glover Teixeira has had a lengthy and successful career. Since turning 40-years-old, he has continued to defy the odds and eventually became the oldest fighter to win a UFC championship after he defeated Jan Blachowicz at age-42.

With his most recent Fight of the Year performance against Prochazka and now a rematch to regain his title, perhaps UFC 282 will be the perfect sendoff for Teixeira whether he wins or loses.

The Brazilian has been actively competing since 2002, and so, retiring from the sport on a positive note could be a fitting end to his career.
