Chennai - Veteran Krishnan Rajini of Moto-Rev India team clinched the title in the premium Group A 600cc superbike class without having to ride. Both races in this category, scheduled over the weekend in the fifth and concluding round of the FMSCI’s MMSC-SIDVIN Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship, were cancelled since only two entries were received.
The decision left Rajini on 60 points from six wins, just ahead of Deepak Ravikumar of Preethi Racing who finished in second spot (56) and M. Gautham (Moto-Rev India) in third (46). Moto-Rev also took the team title with 111 points ahead of Preethi Racing (92).
In the Group D (Novice, 130cc) class, Kamlesh Thakur from Jalagon (Sparks Racing) 76 points has clinched the title leaving two TVS Racing riders Abdul Wahab (48) and KY Ahmed (44) besides Moto-Rev India’s R. Ramesh Kumar (31) to fight for the two other podium spots. However, Sparks Racing (94) and TVS (91) are involved in a fight for the team honours.
In the 165cc Novice (Group D) class, it is a three-way battle involving R. Ramesh Kumar of Moto-Rev (60), Sandesh P of Performance Racing (53) and Arun Muthukrishnan (51) for the top spots. Moto-Rev (102) have an edge over Performance Racing (79) in the team championship stakes.
Ranchi’s talented rider Sumit Lucas Topo of Performance Racing (36) is sandwiched between two Moto-Rev India competitors Shyam Shankar (49) and D. Dinesh Kumar (35) on the leaderboard with another Moto-Rev racer A. Prabhu (29) also in the hunt for a podium spot in the 165cc Open (Group C) class. Moto-Rev India, with 100 points, are assured of the team title.
TVS Racing’s Jagan Kumar has not only sealed the title in Group B (165cc Open) class with a tally of 70 points, but also helped his team claim the championship (124), while team-mate Harry Sylvester (46) and Shyam Shankar (37) of Moto-Rev India.
Titles in the three one-make series for Honda, Yamaha and TVS bike manufacturers, are still up for grabs with the exception of Shyam Shankar (68) who is assured of the crown in the YZ R15 Open class.
As many as 21 races have been scheduled with nine to be run Saturday and the rest on Sunday, followed by the championship prize-distribution ceremony.
