Porsche Formula E driver Pascal Wehrlein believes other teams and drivers will catch up and put up a strong fight over the course of the season. The German driver feels that despite his lead in the championship, he does expect his rivals to improve further into the season.

Speaking to Sportskeeda ahead of the Hyderabad ePrix, the Porsche driver said:

“There will definitely be a big fight, you know. We're looking strong in the first couple of races but everyone will understand and learn the car better and therefore I expect everyone to improve and get better in the next couple of races.”

Despite leading the championship, Pascal Wehrlein believes his rivals will improve their performances and put up a fight. He expects his rivals to improve as they understand their new Gen 3 car better over the course of the next few races.

At the same time, Wehrlein was confident of his own team’s performance and pace. Although he feels there needs to be improvement in their qualifying performance, he feels they’ve been quite efficient so far and have the tools to put up a strong performance.

Adding further, the Porsche driver expressed his confidence in his team and tools, saying:

“Very confident. I mean, efficiency-wise we're looking super strong in the races we were very efficient. We just need to improve a little bit in qualifying and obviously still in the race because everyone will improve.”

Pascal Wehrlein is happy being with a German team like Porsche

Pascal Wehrlein last spoke to Sportskeeda in Mexico, agreeing that he was flourishing with his new team. The German reiterated that he still believes the same and is happy with his environment and wants to make the maximum out of it.

Describing his comfort with his new team after three race weekends, the former F1 driver said:

“I would still agree. Same as in Mexico. I am happy where I am, I am happy with the team. Happy in this championship, so it's the same for me as in Mexico. I just enjoy it and I want to be the best and improve further.”

In the Hyderabad ePrix, the former Sauber F1 driver had a heavy shunt during free practice on Friday and had a poor qualifying session. It is understood that Pascal Wehrlein was unwell. But a decent recovery to a fourth-place finish in the race aided him to retain the championship lead and look forward to the next few races with optimism.

Wehrlein currently leads Jake Dennis by 12 points with an overall point tally of 82 points.
